Game Design
War Gods follows the standard fighter formula: best of three rounds combat, punches, kicks, special moves, combo moves, and finishing moves. It has the basic style of 3D combat, a square or circle ring, where characters dual it out in a sequence of button mashing. So basically you have your classic one on one combat on a 3D battlefield. So, you ask, what makes this game better than other 3D fighters? What makes this game stand out above all other 3D fighters? I'll tell you. Nothing. This game is nothing more than the average fighter game; sure, there are some cool characters, but every fighter has some cool characters. The one player mode is a mirror image of mortal combat, going up a line of opponents. Over and over, harder and harder matches. Then you finally face some bigger scarier guy that you can't play as. This game does not have anything that would make you want to buy it.
Graphics
The graphics are decent. Fairly cool arenas. However, the scrolling backgrounds, seen as you circle around the ring, are very two-dimensional and ugly. The characters look fairly nice, but their special moves are very simple textures on low-polygon shapes. Nothing too special, but the graphics are unified; they are very characteristic of an arcade game.
Sound
Well, the sound keeps the game going, but can become very repetitive. The sound effects are very generic. Music is average. The only part of the sound that is cool, is the voice guy who says stuff during the intro. He says "War Gods" is said in that cool eerie voice that we here on movie trailers. But other than the voice guy, the sound is 'bleh'
Control
The controls are relatively well laid out. They are simple yet effective. The control style makes 20-some hit combos capable. Easy to pick-up on the controls as they are (no surprises here) very typical of fighter games. Classics like, back for two seconds-forward-button, forward-forward-button. Roll forward-button etc. have all been included. The controls are very reminiscent of other fighters, which usually are well laid out.
Satisfaction
I got this game used and cheap, yet, I was quite dissatisfied. Nothing special, no menu system, poor sound, generic fighting. Overall, I would not recommend this game to anyone. Buy the original mortal combat instead.
Replay Value/Game Length
You can play this game as long as you want. But you will be playing the same thing over and over again. I got bored very fast, no this one will probably sit on my self forever from this day forth.
Overall
Don't buy it, unless you can pawn it off for more than you bought it for.
