Game Design
This game was cooler than I thought it would be. This game is well designed, with many upgrades available to your cycles. The tracks are spectacular, featuring a hot wheels loop-de-loop feeling. The extreme speeds are awesome. When you break the sound barrier the screen goes into a cool blur effect and sound fades out. You are going mach speeds on awesome looking environments. The racing aspect is well thought out and extremely cool. The weapons allow you to destroy other cycles. This may sound cheap, but it is not, your shield energy is the same as that of your boost energy; therefore, if you get greedy and use your boost to take the lead, other players can shoot and destroy you - effective use of boost is key in this game. You can play a few different modes, single player league, team league, and multiplay. In the league modes, you race for first in four different race speeds 250G, 500G, 75-G, and 1000G. In the multiplayer modes you can race your friends in any level you have completed in the league mode. Overall, I was really surprised with the excellent game play Extreme-G racing had to offer.
Graphics
This game has high-quality graphics that are both cool and stunning. The maps and environments are awesome. The cycles themselves are really cool looking, and when they are moving down the road, a stream of exhaust follows behind in the form of a neon light. This reminded me of the Tron Cycles, from the movie Tron, which is cool, because Tron was a cool movie. The game includes cool firing effects, great models, and awesome scenery - quite a visually appealing game.
Sound
The soundtracks are mostly techno based, which is appropriate for the type of racing this game offers. The sound effects are also very well done. Overall, the music and effects greatly enhance the racing feel of the game.
Control
The controls are well geared to the racing style of this game. Easy to learn, so you can have your friends playing in seconds. No real problems exist in the controls with this game other than in the menus; here down is up and up is down, so it can be frustrating to go to the mode you want sometimes. Other than that, this game's controls are excellent.
Satisfaction
This game is very satisfying to play. Racing at such high speeds is very exhilarating, and going mach speeds is just freaken cool.
Replay Value/Game Length
This game sports a long single-player mode and an even longer single player mode if you wish to unlock the special Starcom team. Once you finish that you can race with your friends. This is a very long-lasting game.
Overall
I think that this is probably the best four-player racer on the GameCube so far, so if you like racing with your pals, pick this game up, and you won't be disappointed.
