Leave it to Nintendo to have the most beloved Super Mario adventure released last on the Game Boy Advance. Super Mario Advance 4 is a remake of the Super Mario Bros. 3 version that was present in Super Mario All-Stars. This game boasts some of the typical Game Boy Advance 'enhancements' that are present in previous Mario Advance series games such as voice samples and battery-backed save.
The most notable edition to this game is e-reader functionality. Gamers can link-up another Game Boy Advance and scan various cards that do different things. Some cards give you lives or items and others give you all new levels that you can play.
The cartridge allows you to save 30 e-reader levels, but the unfortunate thing is that Nintendo eventually abandoned the e-reader functionality and 30 e-reader levels were never released to the public. The e-reader levels were a great edition to Super Mario Advance 4 but they were never fully realised. The e-reader levels that were released contained an amalgam game design elements from Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. They were awesome to play.
But in the end this game is still a remake that is on the whole unoriginal just like the other games in the Mario Advance series.
