Background

For the twentieth anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo started porting over popular NES games to the Game Boy Advance. Nintendo calls it the NES Classic Series. These games are sold at a lower price than most other GBA games. Metroid was originally released in 1986.

Mini-Review

The NES Classic Series games are essentially identical to their original NES counter parts with modified graphics. The graphical modifications allow the games to fit on the more widescreen ratio of the Game Boy Advance. In order to make the games fit on the GBA screen, every sixth horizontal line of pixels that would appear on the NES are removed. As a result, these games arguably look worse than their original versions.

One upgrade from the original is that this cartridge contains a battery that allows you to save your passwords. It is a major timesaver from the NES version.

This version of Metroid isn't worth your time. Metroid is unlockable in the GBA game Metroid: Zero Mission as well as Metroid Prime on the GameCube. If you are really dying to play this game and don't own an NES, I would recommend you pick on one of these other games to play the original Metroid.

Score - 5.0
