Background

Mario vs. Donkey Kong has the best plot of any video game ever! Mario has become so famous in the Mushroom Kingdom that he started his own toy company selling mini Mario action figures. Donkey Kong loves these toys and one day he goes to the toy store to buy some. However, once he gets to the store, all the toys are gone - they are sold out! Donkey Kong, being an impatient gorilla, goes to the Mini-Mario warehouse and steals Mario's precious inventory. It's up to Mario to chase down DK and rescue the inventory so that his company doesn't go into the red. This game was developed by Nintendo Software Technologies and was published by Nintendo.

Mini-Review

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a follow up to the 1994 Game Boy hit Donkey Kong. Mario must play throughout several levels, in a puzzle-solving side-scrolling platformer. This is not a traditional Mario game, there is very little action in terms of jumping on enemies or over pits; there are no power-ups. This is a puzzle game at heart with platformer elements. As the game goes on, each level gets progressively more challenging, forcing the gamer to really think. This game seems real simple in appearance, but after a few minutes with this game you realize that it is not a simple game. It is challenging.

This game has adequate graphics and sound, they don't hinder the game play at all but they are nothing special either. The controls in this game are different from other Mario games. Mario can't jump real high and you don't have as much control of Mario while he is in the air. This can make the game seem difficult at first, but it doesn't take long to get used to the control style.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a typical Nintendo-handheld release, it's fun to play and very addictive but it just doesn't have the extra punch that makes it memorable.
