Mini-Review

The design aspects of F-Zero: GP Legend are both comparable and contrasting to the original Game Boy Advance racer, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. These two titles are comparable because they both utilize pseudo 3-D Mode 7 graphical engine. These two titles contrast each other in that Maximum Velocity's design borrowed heavily from the SNES original, whereas GP Legend borrowed heavily from the Nintendo 64 and GameCube incarnations of F-Zero.

The most prominent changes from Maximum Velocity lie in the game controls. The boosting system has been modified from the previous game. In Maximum velocity you had one boost each lap, where as in GP Legend, you can boost as many times as you wish after the first lap provided you have enough energy to do so. Also new to GP Legend is the added ability to attack your opponents by pressing L or R twice and holding left or right. This feature was borrowed from the console versions and is often quite hard to pull off with the GBA control scheme because the console versions had a button that was solely for the attack function.

GP Legend offers more game play modes and unlockables than Maximum Velocity which is always welcome. Both single-pak and multi-pak multiplayer modes are available for up to 4 players.

As with all GBA sequels, this F-Zero really doesn't offer that much over its predecessor, it's just a good sequel that's fun to play. If you are a fan or the genre or the series, this game is probably worth your time, otherwise it is not.
