Background

Advance Wars is here. It is an involved turn-based strategy game where you are the general of an army. Your mission, to destroy the enemy. The game includes several anime characters, which are the Commanding Officers for the four different continents in the Advance Wars world. You battle as one of these COs to defeat your foe. Orange Star's COs are Nell, Max, Andy and Sami. Blue Moon's COs are Olaf and Grit. Green Earth's COs are Eagle, and Drake. Yellow Comet's COs are Kanbei, and Sonja. Also there is one final enemy called Sturm, whose troops are grey. Each CO has his own unique characteristics during gameplay, like the best tanks, or awesome artillery. When you play the campaign in the game, at first all this anime seems kind of annoying and cheesy. However, you get into the characters and it becomes a cool part of the game. In Advance Wars four warring nations and sworn enemies must unite to fight a common evil.

Mini-Review

This game is a nice change from the side-scroller or the RPG. The game is paced very well. It is much like chess where you must plan a method of attack and try to outwit your opponent. It is perhaps the most fun playing against your friends, where everyone knows what to do, and alliances and grudges form (just make sure you have lots of time, cause these battle can take a while). This game was truly a surprise, and I did not expect it to be this good. I really mean this when I say it, "Don't judge a game by its Box Art!"
