Mini-Review

Mario Tennis on the Game Boy Color was released after the hugely successful Mario Tennis 64. Too keep gamers interested, Camlet had to make some game design changes to ensure that gamers didn't think they were getting a version of Mario Tennis 64 with Game Boy Color graphics and audio.

The most predominant change in game design was the addition of a single-player role-playing mode. In this mode, you would build your character, increasing your statistics by beating other opponents. The RPG mode contains has tons of things to do and is very fun.

Other new modes include a practice mode, which consists of various activities that can be completed to improve your tennis skills. Another addition to the game was a tennis lexicon that defines various tennis terms. The addition of the lexicon was a smart one because the single-player RPG mode has a considerable amount of dialogue containing tennis terminology.

This version of Mario Tennis has the exact same 2-button control scheme as the N64 version, making the controls simple to learn. All game modes found in the N64 version are present in this game with the exception of a four-player mode.

Mario Tennis is a great game, the only thing it doesn't have from Mario Tennis 64 is a four-player multiplayer mode. This is a great game.

Score - 9.4
