Background

After the hugely successful SNES classic Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo decided that the GameBoy needed to have a Donkey Kong Country game of its own, thus the Donkey Kong Land series was born. Three Donkey Kong Land games were made, each one relating to their SNES counter parts. Donkey Kong Land takes place right after the events of Donkey Kong Country.

Mini-Review

One main problem that plagues this game is the graphics. They are simply too detailed to be accurately represented on the GameBoy's four-shade greyscale. Often times, one will be unable to see character sprites in front of the background images. This severely hinders game play on the GameBoy. However, if one plays on the Super GameBoy or GameBoy Color, this game is one of the best handheld platformers ever. Because of the aforementioned reasons, this game is hard to judge, but because it was released when the original GameBoy the primary GameBoy system, I cannot give this game a high rating.
