Soul Calibur 2 is a follow up to Namco's extremely popular fighting game entitled Soul Calibur. Soul Calibur first came out in arcades, but was popularised when it was released on the Sega Dreamcast. With the demise of the Dreamcast, Namco decided to bring the console version of Soul Calibur 2 to all three current-generation platforms. Each Soul Calibur 2 console release was unique in that each version had a playable character that was not available in any other version. The PlayStation 2 version got Heihachi from the Tekken franchise. The Xbox version got the comic book character Spawn. Finally, the GameCube version received Link from the Legend of Zelda game franchise as a playable character.

The beauty of Soul Calibur 2 is that it's a simple game with deep complexity. The reason for this is because of the game's control system. Most attacks can be implemented with only pressing one or two buttons at once. Soul Calibur 2 doesn't have any of those over-the-top move combinations that other fighting games such as Street Fighter, Killer Instinct or Mortal Kombat have. Because of its control system, the best players are not the ones that can pull off the best fighting moves, but rather, the right fighting moves. Package the awesome control system with stellar graphics, sound, a huge single player mode and a multiplayer mode that's a blast to play and you've got yourself a real winner.
