Resident Evil is a remake of the original PlayStation title on the GameCube. Although the characters, layout and secrets to the game are almost identical, the graphical upgrades have opened a whole new dimension to the plot and excitement of the game.
You can choose to play as either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. They both are working for a special service called S.T.A.R.S who has been called in to investigate recent disturbances within a town named Racoon City. The original S.T.A.R.S team went missing after touching down which adds suspense to Jill and Chris' mission.

The game is played in an old, haunted mansion, in which the team has to retreat to after one of their fellow S.T.A.R.S members is attacked by guard dogs. In light of this, you also have to locate your other team members after the confusion led to you splitting up. Soon after this you discover that the mansion is filled with zombies.
Resident Evil is mainly based around solving puzzles and taking out enemies that get in your way. You'll have to go through rooms and find secret passages. There is another secret behind each door, waiting to be found. Although you might not always want to know what's behind the next door, or down that eerie staircase, it's a rewarding way of going about, with so many surprises for you to witness.
The Graphics are superb with each pixel jumping out at you from the screen. The backgrounds are what caught my eye, with each backdrop as detailed as the last, from mouse holes to shifting shadows. The actual characters themselves are amazing, each hair swaying in the wind, each zombie grotesque limping towards you as his intestines move side-to-side.
The Sounds are magnificent, from the slow bone chilling drip of blood to the echoing footsteps as you go under a bridge. The game also gives you a sense of distance and depth, as the sounds get louder and quieter as you distance yourself from the camera.
The game play is smooth, although cut scenes are a bit jerky, but that doesn't falter the game excessively. But as in most RE games, the game loads at each entrance of a new room, most RE fans will have learnt to ignore this but for the newer gamers this may be a problem.
Resident Evil is a beautiful conversion, which doesn't fail to bring new life to the old title and provide every type of gamer a lot of excitement. This may be one for the hardcore, 'blood loving' genre of fans… I loved it!
