Background

This game's story is just another cheesy sub-text to create a video game. The evil Vizier, has tricked The Prince (our hero) to unleash the Sands of Time upon the world. So, it's up to The Prince and Farah (the beautiful daughter of the conquered Indian Mahanjah) to save the world and seal the Sands of Time once again. This game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft.

Mini-Review

Prince of Persia is an above average action/adventure platformer with one major difference: the ability to manipulate time. The Prince uses his dagger to slowdown, reverse or speed-up time. This adds an amazing element to the game play. When fighting enemies or solving puzzles one can reverse time to avoid death and try to defeat the enemies or solve the puzzle once again.

Avid Nintendo fans will love certain elements in this game. The combat situations feel very much like the 3D Zelda games and the puzzle solving situations feel like 3D Mario games.

This game is not without its faults. The combat mode is not as refined as the rest of the game. Sometimes it is difficult to accurately control your character, attacking a specific enemy can prove to be quite challenging. In addition, oftentimes, there is dialogue between The Price and Farah and sometimes it is hard to hear the dialogue over certain sound effects. The addition of subtitles would have helped greatly.

Prince of Persia is a very linear game; there is no backtracking unless you choose to do so. With that it mind, this game is not as long as others of this genre, which is disappointing because it is just so fun to play.

Prince of Persia is an exceptional game and will probably be considered the best multiplatform game of this generation. It only has a few minor drawbacks that prevent this game from being one of the best console games of all-time.
