Background

Crazy Taxi is a fun arcade game released by Sega. It was quickly ported over to the Sega Dreamcast (the Sega console at the time). Video game publisher Acclaim later bought the rights to port the Dreamcast version over to GameCube and PlayStation 2. Crazy Taxi is a racing game in which you must pick up passengers and quickly drive them to their destination in a limited amount of time.

Mini-Review

The GameCube version of Crazy Taxi is a mixed-bag of enjoyment and poor technical presentation. This game contains some improvements over the Dreamcast version such as improved anti-aliasing and a smoother frame rate. With that being said, you are still very much looking at Dreamcast-level character models and textures.

However, Crazy Taxi is a very fun and addictive concept. Driving recklessly though a city to arrive at certain destinations is a highly enjoyable gaming concept.

Keeping in mind that this is essentially a port of an arcade game, Crazy Taxi isn't a huge game. It contains the original arcade course, a new "original" course and a "Crazy Box" mode. The Crazy Box mode consists of some addicting challenges (see frustration) that will take the average gamer about 5 hours to complete.

All and all, Crazy Taxi is one of those short but fun games that Sega is notorious for making (Golden Axe, anyone?). Although you might tire of it quickly, it is one of those games that you will revisit several years after you have purchased it.

Score - 7.5
